My Favourite Podcasts on Myth & Folklore

Myths and folklore have always been an integral part of our cultural heritage. But in today’s busy world, we may not have the time to read and study them as much as we would like. So, rather than reading, why not try podcasts? You can listen, learn, and be transported to a time when stories by the campfire were the order of the day. Here are a few of my favourite podcasts that focus on Scottish/Celtic, Irish, and Nordic stories.

1: Fireside: Irish Story Telling Podcast

Fireside is a fantastic podcast that covers Irish and Celtic legends and mythology. Hosted by the knowledgeable Kevin with a lovely Irish accent, he takes listeners on a journey through the stories of Grace O’Malley, the Pirate Queen, and the Tuath de Dannan, among others. His telling of the tale, as well as the rundown afterwards, make this podcast one of the best for getting lost in the magic of the story.

2: Stories of Scotland

Hosts Annie MacDonald and Jenny Johnstone bring Scottish culture, nature, and heritage to life with their fabulous podcast, Stories of Scotland. They also have an interactive map on their website that shows where each story is located, making it easy to find tales that are close to home or in a place you plan to visit. As archivists, they have great access, and it’s an entertaining and fun show to listen to.

6: Time Between Time

Owen is a traditional storyteller with a soothing voice that carries you away to the time between times. He tells many local Welsh, English, and Scottish stories, including one about the Wolf of Badenoch which is based in Elgin, not far from where I am. His tales bring local legends to life, and give you a true story with old-world charm, and an experience of otherworldly magic.
